Laura Canning grew up in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, in the 1980s and 1990s. She wrote her first full-length novel aged fourteen, a manuscript that eventually became Taste the Bright Lights. The much-awaited sequel to this acclaimed first novel was published in May 2020.

Laura has a BA in English Lit and an MA in creative writing from Queen's University Belfast, and a PGDip in magazine journalism from City University London. She specialises in travel writing and has published millions of words on countries all around the world.

Extracurricular activities include reading, TV, travel and – lately – boxing: Laura fought (and won) her first fight for charity and will train for another fight as soon as possible once Covid restrictions allow.

Laura lives on a houseboat on the Thames with one human, one cat and two small bears. She spends part of each year in Melbourne, Australia... as soon as possible once Covid restrictions allow.
